Kilowatt Kate + Charlotte Blake debut a new suspension piece

Kilowatt Kate has been collaborating on sculptural illuminations with Charlotte Blake since 2022. This latest piece is the most adventurous yet. Suspended from a solid piece of acrylic rod with a custom-developed ultra-low voltage LED module . Brass, aluminum, and silver 3D printed custom hardware are combined with the clear rod to create a soft glow that complements the weaving artistry of Charlotte Blake’s work.

About Charlotte Blake
Born in Scotland, Charlotte Blake is a contemporary artist based in Toronto, Canada. After receiving her BFA from OCADU specializing in drawing and painting, she gained 20 years of experience creating custom site specific artwork and specialty finishes for interior designers. In 2015, she began working with fibres and started to focus on a a full time independent art practice. Her work explores themes of memory and labour and often combines loom weaving and basketry materials and techniques. Her work is held in numerous private collections in North America and can be found in various commercial hospitality venues, including Nobu Hotels and Othership Spas. Recently, she was accepted as a member of Homo Faber, a project developed by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship. She exhibits her work regularly in Toronto and continues to work with designers and architects to create custom fibre art.
About Kate Tessier
Kate Tessier is an Industrial Designer and the founder of Kilowatt Kate, a collaborative curatorial craft and design practice focused on lighting, material reclamation, and experimental generative product development. She has been Senior Designer-in-Residence at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto since 2023. With two decades of experience in product design, Tessier develops both functional and decorative hardware, custom architectural lighting, and locally produced craft and design. Through these projects, she combines curatorial practice with hands-on design. Tessier’s work, meticulous material exploration blends with collaborative design, emphasizing functionality, aesthetics, and sustainable approaches in contemporary practice.
